The Healthiest Meal of the Day!

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

I realize things look very plain and boring here at the moment but let me assure you that I am working to spruce this page up and bring you interesting (and hopefully entertaining!) content regarding health and fitness among other things.

As I sit here thinking of what to write in my first official entry for this blog, I find myself thinking about the same idea repeatedly: “Be satisfied with your health and fitness.”

What does this mean?? Well, it probably means something very different to you than it does to me. You see, my concept of my own fitness is currently evolving into something much different than it used to be. In the past, I felt like I needed to have crazy muscle definition and be able to do dozens of pull-ups to prove to myself that I’m a very fit person. I think I needed to achieve and maintain something I’d never had before to show everyone (including me!) that I could get to this level of fitness. Why??

Well, I won’t get into the Freudian reasoning behind it but suffice to say it doesn’t matter anyway. What I am learning as I begin my current fitness program (Chalene Johnson’s TurboFire) is that I don’t really mind not having supper-huge lats or 20 different abs muscles popping out when I flex my stomach. I am more interested in finding out what I can do with this new-found health! Two years ago, I would not have attempted to do a program like Shaun T.’s Insanity or Tony Horton’s new Upper Body Balance workout. But here I am, doing these difficult workouts and pushing myself every bit as hard as I did years ago when I was into power lifting. The difference is that my OVERALL fitness is higher than it’s ever been and I’m eating healthier than I ever have before….and this makes me very happy!

When we ordered TurboFire, I was determined to do the hybrid version of it with other extra resistance workouts mixed in because I was concerned about losing muscle size and strength. Once the program arrived, I read through the guides and studied the 20-week schedule and began to realize two things:

1. I need to give this program its fair due to see what I can accomplish through it. The hybrid version with ChaLEAN Extreme is the way it is intended to be used, so that’s how I’m approaching it.

2. Huge muscles, crazy definition and amazing strength aren’t all necessary to be super-fit! I have to be happy with what my current program gives me if I am to actually follow the program to completion. No regrets!

So this is how my blog will go as well. It will evolve and change in time to something different than what you see here today. Please do continue to check back and see how things are going! There will be tasty and healthy recipes to try, interesting articles to read and of course….updates on my fitness progress.

I may even throw in a bit of gaming news once in a while…hey, thumbs need exercise too! Am I right?!

Be well!
